The prancing horse symbol was according to the legend given to a certain Enzo Ferrari by the mother of a fallen Italian WW1 flying ace, count Baracca. The symbol was first used by Enzo on the shields of Scuderia Ferrari, which at first was the name of the Alfa Romeo factorys racing team over which young Enzo was boss at the time.
